Catalog # 1 - NY, NJ, PA TRI-STATE AREA 1986
This volume contains an assortment of rail activities filmed in the NY, NJ, PA Tri-State area between June and October, 1986. You'll see several NJ Transit and Metro North commuter run-bys on the old Erie main between Port Jervis and Campbell Hall, NY., featuring a now-retired U34CH, and several old RDC's. We spend a morning with the Conrail Campbell Hall daily drill up to Maybrook, spotting cars 'on the fly' into a customer's siding. Also, one of Conrail's new SD60's stops at Campbell Hall to make a set-out.
There are some scenes from the Tri-State Railway Historical Society's "Eastern Steam Spectacular" with Blue Mountain & Reading's #425, assisted by two red Morristown & Erie Alco's. There is some Susquehanna activity on the old Lehigh & Hudson River prior to the 1986 rehabilitation. There's also a shot of a Susquehanna Sea-Land train, with 3 Alco's on the point, on Conrail's Southern Tier at the Otisville Tunnel prior to the rehabilitation. Later that same day, a Conrail APL stack train is shown departing Port Jervis.
A very interesting portion of this film is the Conrail rail-removal operation taking place on the old Lehigh & Hudson River near Great Meadows in Warren County, NJ. All phases of the operation, including men and machine close-ups, are detailed. Also covered is the hump yard operation at Conrail's Allentown facilities, with trains being assembled at the west end of the yard. The tape concludes with nine run-bys of a 6-unit Susquehanna Sea-Land stack train on former L&HR and reopened NYS&W tracks in northern New Jersey.
(Run time: 1 hour, 46 minutes.) Total price $27.00 postpaid to USA.
